Artist Statement

The images I create represent aspects of celebration and nostalgia. The color palettes and forms hint at things like; New Year’s Eve confetti , a carnival with cotton candy, birthday cake sprinkles. The child inside us can connect to these paintings filled with chaotic harmony to obtain feelings of joy, safety, love, and hope.

These works are my ode to the freedom of color, movement and patterns. Escaping reality for the fun and excitement of these pastimes is captured within my work by abstracting environments. These paintings sometimes include representational imagery of familiar forms. Other times these works are completely abstracted and representation can be imagined the longer you view the piece.

The abstracted organic shapes are cheerful with rounded edges provide a type safety to the viewer. Bubbles are continually represented within this work as playing with bubbles represent childhood and contain the full spectrum of colors. The colors used are soft pastel and gentle at times, but other times, bright, loud and energetic.

Drawn to images of illusions as a child I’ve always preferred compositions with movement and adventure which is a goal within my work. When abstracting I feel free while simultaneously hyper aware of crafting a composition that creates movement. This puts the viewer on a journey, following the painting as if it were a otherworldly escape.
